Laboratories and research platforms

The University of Caen Normandy has 41 research units, including 21 certified by important French organisations (CNRS, INRAE, INSERM, CEA). The university also cooperates with numerous research platforms in the Normandy region.

LUSAC

Cherbourg University Laboratory of Applied Sciences

LUSAC is a research unit (UR 4253) of The University of Caen Normandy located on two sites: Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and Saint-Lô. Founded in 1994, LUSAC aims at bringing together multidisciplinary skills and developing research works in material and energy. As a science laboratory for engineers, LUSAC conducts industry-oriented research works focusing on fields such as tackles industrial issues and develops research. Skills are brought together in these areas: in thermodynamics, energy systems, energy storage, fluid mechanics, marine environment and materials.

LPC

Corpuscular Physics Laboratory

Founded in 1947, the Caen corpuscular physics laboratory is a joint research unit consisting of around hundred members. The LPC is a key actor for nuclear physics at the service of society.

CIMAP

Research Centre on Ions, Materials and Photonics

Founded in 2008, CIMAP is a research laboratory focusing on two main topics: excited materials and defects, and materials and optics. Through a long-lasting work as a structural actor of research in physics in West Normandy and in France, CIMAP gathers a large variety of subjects..

CRISMAT

Cristallography and Materials Sciences Laboratory

Multidisciplinary laboratory at the interface of solid-state chemistry, materials science and solid-state physics, CRISMAT is affiliated to the CNRS’s Physical and Chemistry institutes.

CRISMAT aims at contributing to technological innovation in the fields of energy, information technologies and communication, by associating state-of-the-artfundamental research and applied research.

I-EPE

Energy, Propulsion and Environment Research Institute – SFR 3519

Located in Saint-Etienne-du-Rouvray, this institute focuses on:

  • Sciences and technologies linked to energy and environment.
  • Interactions between propulsions, energy efficiency and environmental impact

Research platforms

CYCERON

Located on the future global campus Epopea – Caen Normandie Science and Innovation Park, the Cyceron platform gathers unique laboratories and equipment: central animal facility, molecular biology, cellular biology, microscopy, radiochemistry, radiopharmaceuticals, surgery, angiography, magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and positron emission Ttomography (PET) for preclinical and human investigations.

IMOGERE

Radioelement processing and management facilities.

Thanks to the IMOGERE platform, Caen-based research teams can use radioactive sources and access a laboratory dedicated to possession and use of these substances, in accordance with the very strict rules established by the French Authority for Nuclear Safety (ASN) and with the French labour code.
