Multiple faculties for studies of excellence

ESIX Normandie

ESIX Normandie, our engineering school, offers excellence training programmes based on the current and future needs of industries. With over 60 years of expertise, the school provides multidisciplinary and career-oriented courses that combine scientific rigor, technological innovation, and proximity with the industrial world.

ESIX Normandie trains engineers in key fields:

  • Agri-food, to address the challenges of sustainable production
  • Nuclear, energy and industrial engineering to become an expert in production and industrial operations
  • Mechatronics and Embedded Systems, to design intelligent systems for various applications

The programmes, recognised by the Accreditation authority for French professional engineers (Commission des titres d’ingénieur, CTI), are available in initial training or work-study, providing a concrete immersion in industrial environments.

Thanks to our two exceptional campuses, one located in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin and the other in Caen, you benefit from modern equipment such as a Agri-food technological room for practical work and innovation projects, as well as technological halls providing immersion in realistic professional environments.

ESIX Normandie collaborates with a wide range of companies and economic stakeholders, ensuring internships, final-year projects, and employment opportunities for its students. ESIX Normandie also benefits from strong international links, with academic and industrial partnerships abroad.

The University Institute of Technology (IUT) Grand Ouest Normandie

The main mission of the IUT Grand Ouest Normandie, faculty of the University of Caen Normandy, is to offer career-oriented programmes tailored to regional and national socio-economic needs. With 7 campuses across Normandy (Alençon, Caen, Ifs, Lisieux, Vire, Cherbourg-en-Cotentin, Saint-Lô), the IUT trains around 3,000 students each year in a wide range of specialties.

The IUT Grand Ouest Normandie offers numerous programmes in a variety of fields: business, multimedia, biology, energy, as well as networks and telecommunications. To meet the specific needs of companies, these programmes are also available through vocational degrees and continuing education. A strong emphasis is placed on apprenticeships and work-study programmes, ensuring direct immersion of students in the professional world.

The IUT has technical platforms, rooms dedicated to practical work, and high-performance digital tools. With over 73 partner companies and 500 industry professional speakers, the IUT Grand Ouest Normandie provides students with privileged access to internships, work-study programmes, and job opportunities. These partnerships are strengthened by events such as jobfairs and collaborative projects.

The IUT promotes the internationalisation of its programmes, allowing students to benefit from exchange programmes such as Erasmus, internships abroad, or cultural events to explore new horizons.

The Sciences Faculty

The Science Faculty is part of the University of Caen Normandy, offers a variety of scientific programmes in both fundamental and applied sciences, as well as in science communication, in Caen (campuses 1 and 2) and Cherbourg.

If you want to acquiire solid scientific training, the Sciences Faculty offers numerous assets including programmes tailored to meet the needs of each student:

  • Bachelor’s (three-year degree), Master’s (five-year degree) and Doctorate’s (eight-year degree) programmes
  • Professional programmes, such as professional bachelor’s degrees.
  • International opportunities with foreign universities, allowing you to complete part of your studies abroad.
  • A renowned quality of life and an environment that favours cultural and sports activities, in the heart of the Normandy region, with nearby seaside and countryside
  • Partnerships with companies based in Caen and across Normandy, providing our training programmes and laboratories with permanent connections to the industrial and technological sectors.
  • A strong regional presence well-established within territorial authorities as well as fruitful collaborations with our laboratories recognised for their excellent research. This fosters opportunities in teaching and research careers.

The faculty hosts several recognised research units, GREYC (Research Group in Computer Science, Image and Instrumentation of Caen) or the CRISMAT (a transdisciplinary laboratory at the interface between Solid-state chemistry, Material sciences and Solid-state physics), conducting works of excellence in artificial intelligence, advanced materials, and fundamental sciences.

The Sciences Faculty of the University of Caen Normandy is part of a European (Erasmus+) and international cooperation network (international exchanges).

These partnerships offer students in Caen opportunities to study abroad and to benefit from collaborations with international university researchers and professors. Our cooperation agreements cover both education and research.
